Not really a bug, but when I looked for the exposure-blend plugin I had to open an image first. Since this plugin doesn't use the open image but instead asks which three images to open it seems it would be better back at it's old location
GimPad doesn't work :( I installed GimPhoto 1.4.3 and then GimPad 1.1. I can run directly GimPhoto and it behaves and looks like GIMP. But when I run GimPad instead (to get the windows hosted on a large main window like in Photoshop) a large empty window of GimPad appears and it launches GimPhoto. But the GimPhoto windows don't get hosted on the GimPad one, they still stay separate as without GimPad. The GimPad window doesn't seem to offer any features, there are only two small rolldown menus to change theme and with help (not much helpful though). Furthermore I can't exit GimPad so I have to kill it. I already have GIMP 2.2 installed and it looks as usual after the installation of your two programs, may it be that they somehow collide with normal GIMP? Is it necessary to uninstall GIMP? I really don't know what is wrong.
And I have also a question concerning GimPhoto: is it compatible with all stuff (brushes, textures, plugins, whatever...) available for GIMP and does it have all its functions? I wouldn't like to replace GIMP with something not so well supported just to have a more Photoshop-like interface, which as you see I can't get working anyway...
Don't run GimPhoto, just run GimPad, GimPad will automatically run GimPhoto and when GimPhoto loading, wait until it's completely loading, don't swicth to other apps when GimPad loading GimPhoto.
there is possibility Gimp 2.2 is conflict with GimPhoto, try to install using different user.
GimPhoto is 100% compatible with GIMP.
GimPhoto only tested with Windows 2000 and Windows XP.
I launch GimPad 1.1 and open a gimp xcf file using the Gimphoto toolbar, yet the file opens outside Gimpad!?!?! Gimpad is literally a huge blank window on my desktop at this point instead of a place holder for image files.
I am working under Windows XP, using GimPhoto 1.4.3.
sosage, GimPad 1.1 is external app that try to host all GimPhoto window, there is many possibilities that can make this fail, these some thing that make the trouble: - Run GimPad 1.1 (don't run GimPhoto) - Wait until GimPad and GimPhoto loading process finished (don't switch to other window in the loading process) - Don't use "Transients Window" feature that usually used to bring "Always on Top" in GimPhoto. - Don't run GimPhoto with other version of GIMP (because GimPhoto still use the same preferences folder used by GIMP), after uninstall GIMP also do manually clean old GIMP preferences under Document and Settings before install GimPhoto. - There is possibility when other software that prevents GimPad to become parent of GimPhoto, usually this program change how window normally act under Windows.
anonymous, sorry, but are you using Vista? GimPad is not compatible with Vista, GimPad only tested and supported for Windows 2000 and XP, because i don't have Vista.
anonymous, may be you close it using [X] button at title bar, try close it using menu from GimPhoto or from GimPad. Please be specific with you step to close GimPad maybe there is a bug and i will try to fix it. Thanks.
Hey cool guy. Thanks for this program. Well, Gimphoto gets very slow and crashes when i use it for a long time. What is causing that? PLEASE HELP. Maybe its just my computer but it doesnt happen with anything else.
anonymous, do you use GimPhoto with GimPad or only GimPhoto? if you use with GimPad then try to use it without GimPad, maybe the bugs is in GimPad.
but if you use only GimPhoto then maybe the bugs is from GIMP 2.4.3 that used by GimPhoto 1.4.3 then wait the next version of GimPhoto 1.4.5 that based on more stable GIMP 2.4.5.
samten sherab, what Xubuntu version do you use? is GIMP still exist in your system? is your GIMP running well? i think the problem is GimPhoto is accessing GIMP plugins which not compatible with GimPhoto (maybe your GIMP is version 2.4.5 and GimPhoto is based on GIMP version 2.4.3)
this can be happen because GimPhoto is still using the same user preferences folder with GIMP (browse your home folder, from Nautilus enable "Show Hidden File" then it will be show folder .gimp-2.4) Please try to rename it to other name or delete it, then try to run GimPhoto again.
i everyday using GimPhoto for Linux under Linux Mint Daryna (without GIMP) and also under Ubuntu Hardy Heron (with GIMP) without trouble.
GimPad is using specific Win32 API tricks to grab all GimPhoto windows and manage it as single user interface, for Linux i must develop it from scratch and i don't if it possible or not.
Anonymous, are you already read the GimPad help file? for now GimPad only can detect 2 panel (toolbox and tool options panel), this because GimPad is external app from GimPhoto so every second GimPad is checking those 2 panel position and manage it to ensure it's always on top.
Every additional panel will be burden the GimPad for additional checking code then it will result slower GimPhoto performance.
For next GimPad version, i consider to add 1 additional custom panel, maybe... :)
BackDoor.Generic10.KJH is found in the current release of GimPhoto while using the latest AVG AntiVirus Free (program version: 8.0.169; virus database version: 270.7.3/1691). Could you possibly contact with the AVG Developers and make some explanations? Thx in advance ;-)
Anonymous, i'm sorry but i only can responsible for files at Google Code or Tuxfamily, other than that maybe you can contact site admin about the problems, thanks.
i use Avast and GimPhoto installer at Google Code is free from virus.
@zenith: Avast seems to suck big time; it was my fav but after i installed bit defender i found more than 400 viruses at the pc i use at work (home i run only linux).
I keep getting a large number of errors when starting up GimPhoto. they are basically the same error just with different files. Heres an example of one of them
"selection-to-path.exe - Entry Point Not Found" "The procedure entry point g_assertion_message_expr could not be located in the dynamic link library libglib-2.0-0.dll"
also is it normal for GimPad to also embed running instances of Pidgin into it along with GimPhoto?
Sora Chan, i'm really sorry about the bugs but i never use Pidgin, under Windows i use Trillian. i think Pidgin also use GTK then GimPad maybe think Pidgin is also as a part of GimPhoto which also use GTK for Windows.
Thank's for the info, controlling GTK applications under Windows is very complicated, if possible then i will try to fix it in the next release of GimPad.
SmartAssProducts, GimPhoto is running well using Ubuntu 8.04 and Linux Mint 5.0, but if you use Ubuntu 7.10 then you need to install newer version of libgtk (i can run GimPhoto using Linux Mint 4.0 that based on Ubuntu 7.10).
What Linux distro do you use? maybe there is dependencies problem with your GimPhoto installation because GIMP 2.2 is using older version of libraries files than version that needed by GimPhoto.
I have Ubuntu 8.04 64bit and I got the following error:
"error while loading shared libraries: libdbus-glib-1.so.2: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory"
I tried the locate command, and I have this library installed, so i create symlink. Now the error is: error while loading shared libraries: libdbus-glib-1.so.2: wrong ELF class: ELFCLASS64
Is there any way you can fix the bug that deletes all the exif data when you use GimpPhoto to edit a photo? When you change the file type it also deletes the exif. This is important information and along with keywords needs to be saved in the process.
Pam, actually GimPhoto should preserve exif data, when saving JPG try to check Advanced Options > Save Exif, maybe you disable it and you can also use exiftool to save your exif data before editing and put it back after editing.
Watttana, i'm really sorry but there is no plan for 64bit package, this because i don't have 64bit system and i have very limited resources to support another platform.
OS: Windows XP MCE I was running into the problem where GimPad would not close and where the GimPhoto windows were not being captured by GimPad. Also the problem where GimPad would not close and I had to kill it from task manager.
I had tried uninstalling and reinstalling, and it hadn't worked. I use to have Gimp 2.4.7 installed.
I uninstalled GimPad and GimPhoto (in that order), renamed the c:\documents and settings\username\.gimp-2.4 folder, then reinstalled GimPhoto and GimPad (in that order).
It now works properly. I believe it was some sort of conflict with the Gimp2.4 settings that were not removed during the uninstall.
Killermonk, Thank you very much for very useful tips! I will include your tips to Installation instructions.
Many users already reported the problem like your experience but i can't re-produce it at my computer then i confuse about what make the problem because without knowing the cause, i can't find the solution.
Your tips very valuable for other users, thanks for sharing it with us! (^___^)=b
dear all expert, need help I use Win xp home edition SP2, but gimp-2.6.2 cannot run with even smoothtly installation has been done, with massage as follow
gimp-2.6.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close.
Latest stable GimPad and Gimphoto will not save locations of windows. I have "Save window locations on exit." checked and even did the "Save current window locations" button. It always resets them when I restart it all.
Anonymous, if you want to save window locations, do: 1. run GimPhoto (not GimPad). 2. save window location via Preferences. 3. exit GimPhoto. 4. run GimPad (not GimPhoto), i hope this works :)
It sounded like that might work, but it didn't. :( When I run Gimpad I see the Gimphoto windows in the saved positions for a second, then they get moved back to default position.
If I run Gimphoto by itself, the windows are still saved. So the culprit is Gimpad, I presume.
Not sure if it is a bug. Anyway due to this issue Gimphoto is almost not usable for me: after i follow installation instructions carefully, i launch gimphoto and see awful GUI font (screencapture: http://img411.imageshack.us/img411/2188/settingsvm4.png ). I cannot find a way to adjust (at least) it's size. Is that possible?
Gimphoto v1.4.3 for Linux. Ubuntu 8.10 x32. Monitor resolution 1152 x 864. nVidia GeForce4 MX 440 (powered by nVidia 96 driver)
thank you very much. I left Nimbus Sans L Condensed but with size 14. Sorry for 'awful' in my previous message - that was result of frustration... You know, i always use large fonts everywhere (usually i cannot work with fonts smaller than size 14).
I have Gimp 2.4 installed on my laptop.Everytime I use Gimpad/Gimphoto,I get stuck...the fan start turning max speed and there's no way to stop the program except for shutting down the computer.
Anonymous, GimPhoto and GimPad can't live side by side with GIMP 2.4 (try to install GimPhoto and GimPad as different user under Windows to be able using GIMP with GimPhoto)
this happen because GimPhoto using the same user preferences that also used by GIMP, so GIMP user preferences will ruin GimPhoto and GimPad (the most trouble is came from "Transient Windows" features at GIMP user preferences)
Velja, thank's for the bugs info. i can reproduce the error but sorry, i didn't know how to fix it :)
because all plugins code is 100% original from GIMP. i only change plugins menu locations so i hope this error will gone when i upgrade GimPhoto to GIMP 2.4.5
i know comment system is very limited as bugs tracking system but so far only small number of error has been reported and the bugs is mainly derived from gimp that i can't fix it, so i thought that very simple bugs reporting system is enough :)
"Slice for web" does not work. It gives an error with the default values. > Error while executing (script-fu-webotine 1 23 "." "layout.html" "layout-img" "" 0 0 2 FALSE FALSE)
You're hard work is greatly appreciated, I strive to get my friends who use stolen sotware to use what is legal and this is one more tool.
But, Gimpad/Gimpshop is not stable at all. These bugs came up on both the initial install and then a clean install. Even when set in preferences, window positions don't stick, the palette window disappears when I try to adjust size of toolbar on left and the program won't quit either with X or through Exit. I have to end the process. Plus, my tablet's pen isn't pressure sensitive. hmph.
The sooner GIMP gets away from the windowed interface the better. Why wasn't it fixed in GIMP 1.1?
maybe you ever install GIMP 2.4.x? there is user preferences folder that will exist even you already uninstall it, this the main cause that your Gimpad and GimPhoto NOT working ok.
for your problems with GimPad/GimPhoto, there is 3 possibilities that cause the troubles:
1. GimPhoto and GimPad CAN NOT be installed side-by-side with GIMP.
2. There is old GIMP preferences that still exists on your computer (even uninstall GIMP will not remove this preferences) so we must remove it manually, follow this instructions: for 2K/XP users - please check under C:\Documents and Settings\(Your_User_Name)\ - DELETE or RENAME folder .gimp-2.4 or .gimp-2.2 for Vista users - please check it under C:\Users\(Your_User_Name)\ - DELETE or RENAME folder .gimp-2.4 or .gimp-2.2 (mostly error happened because of this)
3. GimPad will into much trouble if "Transients Windows" feature is ON (this a "Always on Top" feature that usually used by GIMP), so DISABLED it because GimPad that will take care "Always on Top feature".
Some more information about your problems:
- Gimpad still can't saving windows position (this will fixed at GimPad next version 1.2)
- Your tablet isn't pressure sensitive because GIMP 2.4.3 error and GimPhoto 1.4.3 based on this version of GIMP (this will fixed at GimPhoto next version 1.4.5 using GIMP 2.4.5)
- GIMP will always using windowed interface because GIMP depend on GTK+ that until now still NOT supporting MDI windowing interface. This way i create GimPad by myself to bring MDI like interface at GimPhoto.
My sincere apologize for calling it GimpShop, i got my programs confused. Before posting last time, I did a complete uninstall of GIMP, deleted the hidden settings and deleted all references to GIMP in my registry. I will try the transients window.
Thanks again, and that you took the time to respond to my issue.
BUT Gimpad fails to start for a limited user (works fine on the admin account), giving an error each time "gimpad.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." and then sends an error message
ALSO BUT - GimPhoto is really good, but I have to use a mouse. My Grapphire 4 tablet is jerky and unresponsive.
Anonymous, GimPhoto 1.4.3 still has a problem with tablet that because it based on GIMP 2.4.3 that has bugs with tablet support, just wait for GimPhoto next version that based on GIMP 2.4.5 which has better tablet support.
GimPad is using extensively Win32 window management API, maybe there are functions that used by GimPad that require admin level user.
You can try to using GimPhoto Portable with GimPad Portable, maybe it can be used with limited user account, just follow this link: http://www.gimphoto.com/2009/05/gimphoto-143-portable-released.html
The Gimphoto 1.4.3 installer clobbered my system path instead of appending "C:\Program Files\GimPhoto 1.4.3\bin;C:\Program Files\GimPhoto 1.4.3\lib\gimp\2.0\plug-ins"
Thanks thanks so much for all the hard work you put into things like this! I highly appreciate it. My family doesn't have a lot of money so i cant afford the most high tech computers or super expensive software like most people so things like this are a blessing.
I only have one problem, when I start it up everythings fine until its past the loading screen then the tool window pops up. Its all white and then it crashes i get the "GimPhoto has encountered a problem and needs to close ect." window. Have had Gimpshop on my comp both the original and upgraded. I have had Gimp 2.6 although it has never worked. I have purged my computer of these files though and any they left behind. BUT right before i found this I downloaded gimp 2.6 although it still didnt work so i uninstalled it, and i went back to "C:\Program files" but nothing was there. So i assumed its was all gone. I have a Windows XP professional 2002 SP3 model. With Very little Memory. -_-'
do you use GimPhoto with GimPad? or you only use GimPhoto? There is many possiblities that cause the problem: GimPad is need to be use with admin login, it can't be run with user login. GimPad is NOT compatible with GIMP setting called "Transient Windows" that usually used to make toolbox always on top (delete all GIMP 2.4 old settings - even you already uninstall GIMP, the settings is still there - you need to delete it manually)
Gimphoto won't install on 64bit Ubuntu 9.04 Jaunty ... at least not with a .deb package installer. That's bad for anyone who's not used to working with a terminal.
I was finally able to install the standard Linux GimPhoto Package with the MD5 checksum ... but can't work with *ANY* images !!! Such a shame, it all started out so promising.
First I uninstalled the Gimp from my system ... never even used it. Then I checked in the terminal, to make sure that the setup message was okay ... and it was. Went ahead and used the right click option to view the setup file properties and "enabled as application" per your instructions. No problem there either !!! Double-clicken on the setup file ... setup went perfect. Opened up the GimPhoto programm from within Nautilus, and that too worked perfectly. I was very impressed by what I saw ... made adjustments in the preferences section. Got finished, saved everything, and just to be safe ... closed the programm.
I then re-opened GimPhoto, this worked very nicely. Tools & Windows were where I wanted them. However, when I tried to work with images ... NOTHING would open !!! I tried .gif images, .bmp images, .jpg images, and .png images. I received the same error for every single image - even though some of them could be viewed in the preview window !!! Message was:
"File blah blah blah failed to open ... unknown file type"
Also, none of my images would show up at all in order to be selected, unless I used the option for viewing all file types. If I used the option for all images ... NONE of the images would show. Is it possible that this has something to do with the fact that I'm using 64bit Ubuntu as opposed to the 32bit Version? Can you fix this problem? Feel free to email me directly, here:
Wouldn't you be able to create a 64bit installer if you installed a separate version of 64bit Ubuntu 9.04 on your computer? It's free, all you'd have to do is to download the iso from the ubuntu website.
There's also a "force" command that can be utilized in order to force the installation of 32bit linux/ubuntu software to work on a 64bit system. However, your instructions don't cover this either ... or at least that won't work ... ???
From a business sense, would it not be a smart thing, to enable GimPhoto to work on 64bit systems since everything is already being ported to 64bit since several years? (Linux Debian, WinXP, WinVista, etc.)
Sorry, no, Ubuntu 64bit will not run on an Athlon XP1800+ System because that particular AMD processor (CPU) is still a 32bit version. I think the 64bit AMD processors didn't start until the XP3000+ came out (could be wrong though). But even those processors have been around for the past 4 years or so.
As far as VMware / Virtualbox is concerned, I don't know anything about those things. What's weird is the fact that 32bit software should work on a 64bit processor/ubuntu system since 64bit is supposed to be *BACKWARD* compatible. But when I tried to install GimPhoto with the ..... sudo dpkg --force-architecture -i ..... option the software would not work, even though the installation itself completed without a problem. If we could just figure out how to make that installation work perfectly on a 64bit system, that would already be a tremendous help since people could then use GimPhoto with 64bit Ubuntu.
I'll have to play around with it some more. Perhaps it was a mistake to *FIRST* remove Gimp altogether. That's what I did, before installing GimPhoto ....
The correct path/location is critical. I always download everything into a "Downloads" folder. Then I create a folder for the app, followed by moving the app. to that folder. Keep this in mind for your own installation ... your path has to be 100% correct.
NOTICE: I did *NOT* uninstall or remove any Gimp Version 2.6 files at all. I can actually use both, GimPhoto as well as Gimp 2.6 separately and both of them open up with my settings intact.
SADLY: GimPhoto is not for me, as I can't really tell the difference between GimPhoto and the Gimp Version 2.6 since I still end up with separate windows, one for each open image. What I need is a programm like Paint Shop Pro, Adobe Photoshop, Corel Draw, etc. In other words, a programm that opens once ... in full screen mode if desired ... followed by containing all open images within that one single main window. GimPhoto runs perfectly on my 64bit Ubuntu now, but I honestly can't really tell the difference between the two since their look and feel is so very much alike. GimPhoto appears to look a little bit cleaner ???
And yes, I did follow the instructions which ask to ignore the file in the bin folder, or rather, requesting the use of the installed file at this location instead:
/usr/local/gimphoto/gimphoto.sh
I've also played around with JPHOTOBRUSHPRO (http://www.jphotobrushpro.com/) which does exactly what I need for an image editor to do. But sadly the development appears to have been discontinued as of 2004. Couldn't get a response from the developer either. It's pretty neat to check out though, all besed on 100% pure Java. Bummer, I hope that someone comes up with a SINGLE WINDOW application for Linux soon, because having Windows/Images all over the place all of the time, especially when working with 10+ images at the same time, ist just plain maddening !!! Have a great Weekend.
Siegfried, Thanks for your info about installing GimPhoto for Linux under 64bit system, i will include it on the GimPhoto for Linux install instructions.
for single unified interface for GimPhoto under Liinux, you can try using XNest, maybe not perfect but as for temporary solution, it's ok :)
for using XNest with GIMP or GimPhoto, follow this link: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=240543 http://xubuntu.wordpress.com/2006/09/05/howto-run-gimp-in-one-window/ http://www.anoobsguide.com/2009/02/how-to-make-gimp-one-window-in-ubuntu.html
Anonymous, can you give me more detailed info about what OS do you use? XP, Vista or Linux? what error message? i assume you using Windows and install GimPhoto and GimPad then for first check, try to run GimPhoto (don't run GimPad) this is for define where is the problem at GimPad or GimPhoto.
Hello, Every filter or effect I attempt to apply to an image straight away gives me an error message saying that the particular plug in crashed. I have re started a couple of times now, and it keeps doing it. Why?
Anonymous, please be more specific about what OS do you use? do you use GimPhoto with GimPad? what error message do you get? what particular plugin that is crashed?
maybe you can try to run GimPhoto (don't run GimPad) and try to use filter or effect.
Well, for all of those looking for the "perfect" Gimp Windowed integration solution, this blog from one of the main Gimp Developers may prove to be interesting. I always figured that it was just a matter of time, just a few more months now.
Do take a look at it. It's very interesting and if you click on - SHOW ORIGINAL POST - at the top, then you'll get to see a bunch of screenshots too. Greetings from Germany
Ooooops, sorry about that ... It appears that the images are no longer working in the blog. That's a real shame too because some of those graphical ideas were truly awesome !!! :(
Siegfried, afaik the GIMP single window implementation was not MDI style like Photoshop but it more toward TAB style like browser such as Firefox or Chrome. I think it not as flexible as MDI windowing style.
Derek Stanley, actually if your camera support TWAIN32 or your camera storage can be auto detected as removable drive, then it will be recognized by GimPhoto.
for printing problem, maybe you can be more specific about your OS and what error message do you got?
castawaybcn, Thank's for your kind words :) for "sometimes it gets on my nerves..." i know what you mean, because i also experience it, even that is the main reason why i develop GimPhoto :)
yes GimPad need admin privilege because GimPad need specific Win32 API that can take over control for be able to manage other apps windows (GimPhoto windows)
but you can use Steel Run As (free), get it from: http://www.steelsonic.com/steelrunas.htm
with it we can run specific software as admin user but also hide admin password from users.
This has probably already been reported but I really can't stress enough how I would like my tools and layers dialogs to always be on top while working on an image. It is inconvenient to have to constantly alt-tab or click the tab in the taskbar in order to access them.
pxlspy01, i assume you using Windows and only use GimPhoto but not using GimPad. You can try to use GimPad, then your tools and layers dialogs will always on top.
I installed gimphoto...installed from deb package, worked fine...installed where it said it would/where i expected it would....when i try to open a jpg, png, gif....anything besides a .xcf.....i get a plug-in error..unable to open image....
i also have gimp 2.6.7 and gimp 2.7 installed and everything works fine....some how i dont think that gimphoto(2.4) is looking in other gimp folders because it created its own .gimp-2.4 folder in my home folder..
any ideas whats happening here....im running ubuntu 9.04
David, try to run GimPhoto from gimphoto.sh rather from /bin/gimphoto, maybe it happened because ubuntu 9.04 using newer shared libraries that used by 2.6 but not compatible with 2.4.
zenith, thanks...works perfect now :)... also great work with GimPhoto..i love it. now i have specialized configuration for gimp, for painting and photomanipulation..thanks again.
Hi! I'm running Kubuntu Karmic and when trying to launch I get... /usr/local/gimphoto/bin/gimphoto: error while loading shared libraries: libart_lgpl_2.so.2: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
Andy, sorry but i don't have Karmic system to test it by myself. Maybe you can try to get GimPhoto deb package from GetDeb.net because it is different from this site deb package.
Anonymous, please read installation instructions more carefully again, specially at section about deleting old gimp 2.4 preferences at /documents and settings/users folder even if you already uninstall gimp. (gimphoto will use that old preferences and that preferences usually not compatible with gimpad)
I was using GimPhoto on 32 bit XP and everything was working, but now I got a new computer with 64 bit Windows 7 and I'm having problems.
I mainly use this program for the "save for web" feature. Now when I go to open an image, the program will crash (not responding) after I open a folder with lots of images in it (about 500 images). If I leave the computer for about 5 minutes it will finally load, but then after doing anything like trying to save for web it will crash for another 5 minutes.
I encountered the libgimpui-2.0-0.dll problem, the suggestion was to reinstall the GimPhoto, I did it but still the problem remains and I can't do anything, can't work att all. Do you have a solution to this problem, as seen in Google it's a common problem.
I used Gimp Image Editor for the first time today to crop some old pics that i scanned and saved to my desktop, this worked beautifully and i was really happy!! so i have now tried to use this programme on some recent pics that i have saved in my pictures but i cant open them as Gimp is trying to open them and not my normal Fspot photo manager?? i then get an error saying opening'home/kim/pictures'failed:is a directory...i now cant access any of my pictures or any other documents for that matter, can anyone help me reset my f spot as the default picture opener??? thanks heaps....Kim
I wanted to try gimphoto on my ubuntu 10.10 but when I install it it showed an error...:( here's the error:
error processing /home/francis/Downloads/gimphoto_1.4.3-1_i386.deb (--install): parse error, in file '/var/lib/dpkg/tmp.ci/control' near line 11 package 'gimphoto': duplicate value for `Architecture' field Errors were encountered while processing: /home/francis/Downloads/gimphoto_1.4.3-1_i386.deb
Installed GP on our Ubuntu Linux system and very very pleased. Great job. So I decided to download the Windows 7 version of GimPhoto followed by GimPad. Installed both flawlessly, but immediately got VIRUS warning from McAfee. Please check this out and tell me if it is a false positive or real. Thanks!
McAfee detected and automatically removed a virus from your PC. No further action is required.

I am running Fedora 15b with GNOME 3. I want to install GimPhoto, since GIMP itself is totally alien to me, I've always been used to Photoshop.
Anyway, I downloaded the "All Linux Distro" version, enabled the "run as application" checkbox... and nothing happens. I doubleclick - nothing. I right-click + Open - nothing. I even tried to run it with another application (Software Install and also Archive Manager), but still nothing happens.
I really wish I could use GimPhoto, but I cannot, for the life of me, figure out how to install it.
Any change this could end up in a repository we could use with YAM? (respectively, a deb repository we could use with aptitude...)
Anonymous, I'm sorry for not be able to provide RPM package because i only Ubuntu based distro and don't have Fedora system.
but you can use ALIEN to convert Gimphoto DEB package to RPM, just follow this tutorial: http://linuxpoison.blogspot.com/2010/05/how-to-convert-between-packages-deb-rpm.html
Gimphoto 1.4.3 for Ubuntu Maverick (DEB) http://openartisthq.org/debian/maverick/gimphoto_1.4.3-1_i386.deb

hmmm .. still multiple windows on this Kubuntu 10.04 LTS ( 64 ) deleted, purged uninstalled, reinstalled .. ran from correct dir.. still multi-windowed :( Oh well. thanks anyway

I am running gimphoto on Ubuntu 11.10 currently and when ever I try to copy or cut an object it closes and exits on me, even when I use the menu cut and copy. Any suggestions?
I open gimpshop and when it gets to fonts,it says (Not Responding) And i click it and a message says Close the program or wait for it to respond. I've tried opening it millions of times and this allways happens. Help.
monica, i'm sorry but this site is GIMPHOTO site and NOT gimpshop site :) if you interested to use GIMPHOTO for Windows then try to download it from http://www.gimphoto.com/2008/02/gimphoto-for-windows.html and follow the installation instructions :)
She Wolf, if you have problems with Gimphoto installer then maybe you can try Gimphoto portable version, you can download it from here: (and follow installation instructions) http://www.gimphoto.com/2008/02/gimphoto-portable.html
I am Using gimp's latest version on a Windows 8 PC, when i try to scale an image by entering values for height and width the image doesn't scale, I have scale the image manually. I tried re-installing too but it didn't work. I am facing the same issue in gimp shop too.
Hi Pradeep, i'm sorry but this is NOT a GIMP nor GIMPSHOP website, this is GIMPHOTO website :) for GIMP official website then you can go to: http://www.gimp.org/
I basically can not get this program to work correctly at all. I can not move the main window where my image is open, so i have to move the tool boxes around. I can not select any menu choice on the image window either, so i cant do any editing. Sometimes the tool options box is stuck towards the middle of the screen and i have to open/close the program a few times to be able to move it. If i open anything from any of the menus, example.. tools or xtns, i cant not close it. the "X" or the close options do not respond.... I am running the gimpad like it says i am on windows 7. what am i doing wrong.
Anonymous, If you ever install GIMP 2.4 or Gimpshop (even if you already uninstall it), for Windows 7 users - please check it under C:\Users\(Your_User_Name)\ - DELETE or RENAME folder .gimp-2.4 or .gimp-2.2 (mostly error happened because of this)
if the errors is persist then try using Gimphoto Portable, download it from: http://www.gimphoto.com/2008/02/gimphoto-portable.html
BUG: When you install GimpPhoto and GimpPad it deletes everything from your System Path variable and replaces it with the path to GimpPhoto and GimpPad.
Anonymous, What your OS ? Gimphoto and Gimpad tested on Windows XP and Windows 7 without a problem. But if you doubt then try Gimphoto Portable version first, download it from: http://www.gimphoto.com/2008/02/gimphoto-portable.html
I have found GimPhoto for me. But have the problem that it does not run clean. It jerky in between and then hangs up. Then I can finish the progam only via the task manager. It will not happen.
Mc Lawrie, What OS that you use? Maybe you can try to using Gimphoto Portable, download it from here: http://www.gimphoto.com/2008/02/gimphoto-portable.html
Pressure sensitive hyperpen's return is really slow (an example, I draw a line, but it shows up a second later). This bug happens with GimPhoto 1.4.3 + GimPad 1.1 Btw everything works ultra fast with Gimp 2.8 , but it has less features, so I'm hoping that this gets fixed :/
aesqe, I'm sorry for your troubles with Gimphoto :( Gimphoto only tested with Windows XP, Vista and 7 so it's not ready for Windows 8 or 8.1. So if you use Windows 8 or 8.1, it's more safe to try Gimphoto Portable :) http://www.gimphoto.com/2008/02/gimphoto-portable.html
Wijnand, Gimphoto for Linux only tested using 32 bit version of Ubuntu from 10.04 to 14.04 or Linux Mint 17. for error "cannot open shared object", maybe you can try to install the file using package from: https://packages.debian.org/wheezy/libart-2.0-2
Wijnand, do you install 64bit version? if you using Ubuntu 14.04 then try install using 32bit version because since Ubuntu 13.10 is multi-architecture... no need anymore to install additional 32 bit library.
Where is the location of file "libart_lgpl_2.so.2" ? Is already included on PATH ? "These might be installed in /usr/lib32 on your machine. You'll need to add these directories to your LD_LIBRARY_PATH environment variable"
Wijnand, That's error message mean that Gimphoto is 32 bit app that try to use libart_lgpl_2.so.2 64 bit version. If you already success installed ia-32libs then libart_lgpl_2.so.2 32 bit is located at folder /usr/lib32. STEP TO FIX: 1. Check file libart_lgpl_2.so.2 is exist at usr/lib32 2. ADD LIBRARY PATH TO /usr/lib32 using this command: bash$ export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/lib32:$LD_LIBRARY_PATH
If Gimphoto 24.1 window is NOT maximized, but I would like to maximize the window of a picture within Gimphoto, this maximized picture window doesn't fit in the available size of the Gimphoto/Gimpad window.
I had the same problem as Wijnand, hmmm I'm somewhat confused why gimphoto still want to use the 32 bit version of the library when I've downloaded the 64 bit deb package ?
Anonymous, i only compile Gimphoto 32 bit version and made 32 bit installer (because i don't have 64 bit system) the 64 bit version is made by other Gimphoto users, i don't know if he re-compile it for 64 bit or only re-wrap my 32 bit version to 64 bit installer, i predict it was the later so Gimphoto 64 bit installer still use 32 bit version of library :)
Hi. I am trying to install Gimphoto, but when I run it it says 'where is X11'. I have deleted both XQuartz and Gimphoto reset computer, re-downloaded both - and still the same error. When I click 'Browse' to search for X11 I get 'No Document can be created'
Thanks for a great program under a free open source license!
Added a program to a Russian-language site about free software, here is the link (https://xn--90abhbolvbbfgb9aje4m.xn--p1ai/%D0%B3%D1%80%D0%B0%D1%84%D0%B8%D0%BA%D0%B0/%D0%B3%D1%80%D0%B0%D1%84%D0%B8%D1%87%D0%B5%D1%81%D0%BA%D0%B8%D0%B5-%D1%80%D0%B5%D0%B4%D0%B0%D0%BA%D1%82%D0%BE%D1%80%D1%8B/gimphoto-%D1%80%D0%B5%D0%B4%D0%B0%D0%BA%D1%82%D0%BE%D1%80-%D1%84%D0%BE%D1%82%D0%BE%D0%B3%D1%80%D0%B0%D1%84%D0%B8%D0%B9.html).
Will the program no longer develop and receive updates?
For some reason Linux Mint 20.2 Cinnamon says that this is NOT a .deb package and cannot install it. Please provide terminal codes instead for a cleaner install. Thanks!

well, i start it up, and it goes fine until it gets to font, and it crashes... any help?
ReplyDeleteNot really a bug, but when I looked for the exposure-blend plugin I had to open an image first. Since this plugin doesn't use the open image but instead asks which three images to open it seems it would be better back at it's old location
ReplyDeleteWhen i run, i get the message 'Failede to run Gimphoto' and then it's over ... (i installed Gimpad)
ReplyDeletelennart,
ReplyDeletefirst you must install GimPhoto 1.4.3 and then install GimPad 1.1, after that run GimPad 1.1.
GimPad doesn't work :(
ReplyDeleteI installed GimPhoto 1.4.3 and then GimPad 1.1.
ReplyDeletethere is possibility Gimp 2.2 is conflict with GimPhoto, try to install using different user.
ReplyDeleteI am working under Windows XP, using GimPhoto 1.4.3.
sosage,
ReplyDeleteGimPad 1.1 is external app that try to host all GimPhoto window, there is many possibilities that can make this fail, these some thing that make the trouble:
- Run GimPad 1.1 (don't run GimPhoto)
- Wait until GimPad and GimPhoto loading process finished (don't switch to other window in the loading process)
- Don't use "Transients Window" feature that usually used to bring "Always on Top" in GimPhoto.
Cannot quit GimPad application. Need to end task in Task Manager.
ReplyDeleteanonymous,
ReplyDeletesorry, but are you using Vista? GimPad is not compatible with Vista, GimPad only tested and supported for Windows 2000 and XP, because i don't have Vista.
Nope, XP. Tried it on two XP machines actually. Same thing happens on both.
ReplyDeleteanonymous,
ReplyDeletemay be you close it using [X] button at title bar, try close it using menu from GimPhoto or from GimPad.
ReplyDeleteanonymous,
ReplyDeletedo you use GimPhoto with GimPad or only GimPhoto? if you use with GimPad then try to use it without GimPad, maybe the bugs is in GimPad.
but if you use only GimPhoto then maybe the bugs is from GIMP 2.4.3 that used by GimPhoto 1.4.3 then wait the next version of GimPhoto 1.4.5 that based on more stable GIMP 2.4.5.
Hi,
ReplyDeleteThis is starting to look fantastic!
Running WinXP and I also encounter a problem in that I can not close GimpPad. The only way I can close it is to kill the process in taskmanager.
Keep going as this is shaping up to be a killer app.
anonymous,
ReplyDeleteplease explain step by step what do you do before encounter a problem, i hope i can fix it.
maybe when you close GimPhoto try using menu File > Exit.
Thanks for the great app,
ReplyDeleteI installed it on my Xubuntu box and it worked ok for a day but then the next day when I wanted to open a jpg I got this error
Plug-in crashed: "jpeg"
(/usr/local/gimphoto/lib/gimp/2.0/plug-ins/jpeg)
The dying plug-in may have messed up GIMP's internal state. You may want to save your images and restart GIMP to be on the safe side.
no matter how many open or close it I get the same error each time (same for gifs) I tried uninstalling it and reinstalling it but no luck.
Any ideas?
Also I was wondering if there is Gimpad for linux yet?
thanks again
samten sherab,
ReplyDeletewhat Xubuntu version do you use? is GIMP still exist in your system? is your GIMP running well? i think the problem is GimPhoto is accessing GIMP plugins which not compatible with GimPhoto (maybe your GIMP is version 2.4.5 and GimPhoto is based on GIMP version 2.4.3)
this can be happen because GimPhoto is still using the same user preferences folder with GIMP (browse your home folder, from Nautilus enable "Show Hidden File" then it will be show folder .gimp-2.4) Please try to rename it to other name or delete it, then try to run GimPhoto again.
i everyday using GimPhoto for Linux under Linux Mint Daryna (without GIMP) and also under Ubuntu Hardy Heron (with GIMP) without trouble.
GimPad is using specific Win32 API tricks to grab all GimPhoto windows and manage it as single user interface, for Linux i must develop it from scratch and i don't if it possible or not.
It seams that the layers, chanels, paths etc-window is not captured in mdi. please fix :)
ReplyDeleteAnonymous,
ReplyDeleteare you already read the GimPad help file? for now GimPad only can detect 2 panel (toolbox and tool options panel), this because GimPad is external app from GimPhoto so every second GimPad is checking those 2 panel position and manage it to ensure it's always on top.
Every additional panel will be burden the GimPad for additional checking code then it will result slower GimPhoto performance.
For next GimPad version, i consider to add 1 additional custom panel, maybe... :)
Hi I got it working :-)
ReplyDeleteI tried uninstalling gimp deleting all gimp usr config files but nothing worked.
In the end I tried the the shell script gimphoto.sh and it worked fine.
Thanks again for for this porg!
ReplyDeleteAnonymous,
ReplyDeletei'm sorry but i only can responsible for files at Google Code or Tuxfamily, other than that maybe you can contact site admin about the problems, thanks.
i use Avast and GimPhoto installer at Google Code is free from virus.
@zenith: Avast seems to suck big time; it was my fav but after i installed bit defender i found more than 400 viruses at the pc i use at work (home i run only linux).
ReplyDeleteDread Knight,
ReplyDeleteAvast by default enable all module, try to enable only Standard Shield and Web Shield (from Avast Resident Scanner > Details...)
Bit Defender is a very good if not the best av but it only free for on demand scanner and for real time scanner we must paid it.
so i think for free real time av protection, Avast is good enough and the real competitor is Avira but it has disturbing popup banner.
OS: Windows XP
ReplyDeleteI keep getting a large number of errors when starting up GimPhoto. they are basically the same error just with different files. Heres an example of one of them
"selection-to-path.exe - Entry Point Not Found"
"The procedure entry point g_assertion_message_expr could not be located in the dynamic link library libglib-2.0-0.dll"
also is it normal for GimPad to also embed running instances of Pidgin into it along with GimPhoto?
Ok got it to work, I had it installed on a drive other than the C drive, I went and reinstalled it onto the C drive and its working now.
ReplyDeleteHow ever the whole Pidgin embedded into GimPad is still there and.. its a little annoying..
Sora Chan,
ReplyDeletei'm really sorry about the bugs but i never use Pidgin, under Windows i use Trillian. i think Pidgin also use GTK then GimPad maybe think Pidgin is also as a part of GimPhoto which also use GTK for Windows.
Thank's for the info, controlling GTK applications under Windows is very complicated, if possible then i will try to fix it in the next release of GimPad.
It won't run. :(
ReplyDeleteThe installer said it successfully installed GimPhoto, but it won't run. I get this error message:
symbol lookup error: ./gimphoto: undefined symbol: g_once_init_enter_impl
I did not uninstall GIMP first; my GIMP version is 2.2; I did rename ~/.gimp-2.2 to something else.
Any ideas?
SmartAssProducts,
ReplyDeleteGimPhoto is running well using Ubuntu 8.04 and Linux Mint 5.0, but if you use Ubuntu 7.10 then you need to install newer version of libgtk (i can run GimPhoto using Linux Mint 4.0 that based on Ubuntu 7.10).
What Linux distro do you use? maybe there is dependencies problem with your GimPhoto installation because GIMP 2.2 is using older version of libraries files than version that needed by GimPhoto.
Hi!!
ReplyDeleteI have Ubuntu 8.04 64bit and I got the following error:
"error while loading shared libraries: libdbus-glib-1.so.2: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory"
I tried the locate command, and I have this library installed, so i create symlink. Now the error is:
error while loading shared libraries: libdbus-glib-1.so.2: wrong ELF class: ELFCLASS64
64bit Class...
Is there a plan to create a 64bit package??
Thanks!!
Is there any way you can fix the bug that deletes all the exif data when you use GimpPhoto to edit a photo? When you change the file type it also deletes the exif. This is important information and along with keywords needs to be saved in the process.
ReplyDeleteThanks, pam
Pam,
ReplyDeleteactually GimPhoto should preserve exif data, when saving JPG try to check Advanced Options > Save Exif, maybe you disable it and you can also use exiftool to save your exif data before editing and put it back after editing.
Watttana,
ReplyDeletei'm really sorry but there is no plan for 64bit package, this because i don't have 64bit system and i have very limited resources to support another platform.
Sorry, when you save a jpeg to a tif or any other extension the exif data is lost. I'll try the exiftool
ReplyDeletethanks, pam
OS: Windows XP MCE
ReplyDeleteI was running into the problem where GimPad would not close and where the GimPhoto windows were not being captured by GimPad.
Killermonk,
ReplyDeleteThank you very much for very useful tips! I will include your tips to Installation instructions.
Many users already reported the problem like your experience but i can't re-produce it at my computer then i confuse about what make the problem because without knowing the cause, i can't find the solution.
Your tips very valuable for other users, thanks for sharing it with us! (^___^)=b
Does this thing open psd's?
ReplyDeletedear all expert, need help
ReplyDeleteI use Win xp home edition SP2, but gimp-2.6.2 cannot run with even smoothtly installation has been done, with massage as follow
gimp-2.6.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close.
Anonymous,
ReplyDeletesorry but this site is only for GimPhoto support, for GIMP 2.6.2 support, try http://www.gimp.org or http://www.gimptalk.com.
Latest stable GimPad and Gimphoto will not save locations of windows. I have "Save window locations on exit." checked and even did the "Save current window locations" button. It always resets them when I restart it all.
ReplyDeleteAnonymous,
ReplyDeleteif you want to save window locations, do:
1. run GimPhoto (not GimPad).
2. save window location via Preferences.
3. exit GimPhoto.
4. run GimPad (not GimPhoto), i hope this works :)
It sounded like that might work, but it didn't. :(
ReplyDeleteWhen I run Gimpad I see the Gimphoto windows in the saved positions for a second, then they get moved back to default position.
If I run Gimphoto by itself, the windows are still saved. So the culprit is Gimpad, I presume.
Daemon,
ReplyDeleteyes, for now GimPad still doesn't save windows location.
Hello.
ReplyDeleteEk kian Thank you for Gimphoto!
Please help.
SS-27,
ReplyDelete- run Terminal
- type:
sudo gedit /usr/local/gimphoto/share/gimp/2.0/themes/Default/gtkrc
- sudo will ask admin/root password
- after gtkrc file opened, change line:
font_name = "Nimbus Sans L Condensed 10"
- that line means GimPhoto is using font Nimbus Sans L Condensed with size 10.
- change font type or size, save file then run GimPhoto
i usually using font DejaVu Sans Condensed with size 9 (this font is good because all panel tabs text is visible)
zenith,
ReplyDeletethank you very much. I left Nimbus Sans L Condensed but with size 14. Sorry for 'awful' in my previous message - that was result of frustration...
You know, i always use large fonts everywhere (usually i cannot work with fonts smaller than size 14).
Take care.
My best regards.
I have Gimp 2.4 installed on my laptop.Everytime I use Gimpad/Gimphoto,I get stuck...the fan start turning max speed and there's no way to stop the program except for shutting down the computer.
ReplyDeleteAnonymous,
ReplyDeleteGimPhoto and GimPad can't live side by side with GIMP 2.4 (try to install GimPhoto and GimPad as different user under Windows to be able using GIMP with GimPhoto)
this happen because GimPhoto using the same user preferences that also used by GIMP, so GIMP user preferences will ruin GimPhoto and GimPad (the most trouble is came from "Transient Windows" features at GIMP user preferences)
GimPhoto - 1.4.3 for Windows (XP SP3)
ReplyDeleteGimPad - 1.1 for Windows
Whenever I try to even open Filters/Lighs and Shadow/Gradient Flare I get the "gflare.exe - Application Error" window on any picture.
Velja,
ReplyDeletethank's for the bugs info.
i can reproduce the error but sorry, i didn't know how to fix it :)
because all plugins code is 100% original from GIMP.
i only change plugins menu locations so i hope this error will gone when i upgrade GimPhoto to GIMP 2.4.5
A comment system is not an issue tracker - you should use your google code tracker for bugs and suggestions.
ReplyDeleteAnonymous,
ReplyDeletethank's for your suggestions.
i know comment system is very limited as bugs tracking system but so far only small number of error has been reported and the bugs is mainly derived from gimp that i can't fix it, so i thought that very simple bugs reporting system is enough :)
"Slice for web" does not work. It gives an error with the default values.

Anonymous,
ReplyDeleteThank's for your info about "Slice for Web" bug!
I already fix it, try follow steps from this post:
http://www.gimphoto.com/2009/03/bug-fix-slice-for-web.html
and tutorial for using "Slice for Web" will follow.
You're hard work is greatly appreciated, I strive to get my friends who use stolen sotware to use what is legal and this is one more tool.
ReplyDeleteBut, Gimpad/Gimpshop is not stable at all.
WinXP | HP Compaq tc4200 | 1.5G RAM
wavetraced,
ReplyDeleteThank's for kind words :)
ahem...this is GimPhoto not Gimpshop :)
maybe you ever install GIMP 2.4.x?
there is user preferences folder that will exist even you already uninstall it, this the main cause that your Gimpad and GimPhoto NOT working ok.
for your problems with GimPad/GimPhoto, there is 3 possibilities that cause the troubles:
1. GimPhoto and GimPad CAN NOT be installed side-by-side with GIMP.
2. There is old GIMP preferences that still exists on your computer (even uninstall GIMP will not remove this preferences) so we must remove it manually, follow this instructions:
for 2K/XP users
- please check under C:\Documents and Settings\(Your_User_Name)\
- DELETE or RENAME folder .gimp-2.4 or .gimp-2.2
for Vista users
- please check it under C:\Users\(Your_User_Name)\
- DELETE or RENAME folder .gimp-2.4 or .gimp-2.2
(mostly error happened because of this)
ReplyDeleteThanks again, and that you took the time to respond to my issue.
This is a great package.
ReplyDeleteBUT Gimpad fails to start for a limited user (works fine on the admin account), giving an error each time "gimpad.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." and then sends an error message
ALSO BUT - GimPhoto is really good, but I have to use a mouse. My Grapphire 4 tablet is jerky and unresponsive.
Using WinXP SP3 on a completely new system.

ReplyDeleteGimPhoto 1.4.3 still has a problem with tablet that because it based on GIMP 2.4.3 that has bugs with tablet support, just wait for GimPhoto next version that based on GIMP 2.4.5 which has better tablet support.
GimPad is using extensively Win32 window management API, maybe there are functions that used by GimPad that require admin level user.
You can try to using GimPhoto Portable with GimPad Portable, maybe it can be used with limited user account, just follow this link:
http://www.gimphoto.com/2009/05/gimphoto-143-portable-released.html
The Gimphoto 1.4.3 installer clobbered my system path instead of appending
ReplyDelete"C:\Program Files\GimPhoto 1.4.3\bin;C:\Program Files\GimPhoto 1.4.3\lib\gimp\2.0\plug-ins"
A rather annoying problem...
john,
ReplyDeletesorry but that system path is required by GimPhoto to be able to find executable and plug-ins files location.
Thanks thanks so much for all the hard work you put into things like this! I highly appreciate it. My family doesn't have a lot of money so i cant afford the most high tech computers or super expensive software like most people so things like this are a blessing.
ReplyDeleteI only have one problem, when I start it up everythings fine until its past the loading screen then the tool window pops up. -_-'
please help me I really want to use this program.
^SAME PERSON~
ReplyDeleteI have now tried deleting all the files again, Still just opens the tool window> its all white> and then error report> crash (o-_-)p
Please help!
Anonymous,
ReplyDeleteThanks for your kind words :)
do you use GimPhoto with GimPad? or you only use GimPhoto?
There is many possiblities that cause the problem:
GimPad is need to be use with admin login, it can't be run with user login.
GimPad is NOT compatible with GIMP setting called "Transient Windows" that usually used to make toolbox always on top (delete all GIMP 2.4 old settings - even you already uninstall GIMP, the settings is still there - you need to delete it manually)
for easier solution, try using GimPhoto Portable.
Gimphoto won't install on 64bit Ubuntu 9.04 Jaunty ... at least not with a .deb package installer. That's bad for anyone who's not used to working with a terminal.
ReplyDeleteI was finally able to install the standard Linux GimPhoto Package with the MD5 checksum ... but can't work with *ANY* images !!! Such a shame, it all started out so promising.
ReplyDeleteFirst I uninstalled the Gimp from my system ... never even used it.
Feel free to email me directly, here:
siegfried -AT- niederrad -DOT- net
I would love to be able to use this software !!!
siegfried,
ReplyDeletesorry because i don't have 64bit system then i can't create installer for 64bit system.
Wouldn't you be able to create a 64bit installer if you installed a separate version of 64bit Ubuntu 9.04 on your computer? It's free, all you'd have to do is to download the iso from the ubuntu website.
ReplyDeleteThere's also a "force" command that can be utilized in order to force the installation of 32bit linux/ubuntu software to work on a 64bit system. However, your instructions don't cover this either ... or at least that won't work ... ???
From a business sense, would it not be a smart thing, to enable GimPhoto to work on 64bit systems since everything is already being ported to 64bit since several years? (Linux Debian, WinXP, WinVista, etc.)
siegfried,
ReplyDeleteis Ubuntu 64bit can run on AthlonXP 1.8? or can we run it using VMware or Virtualbox?
Linux is new development environment for me, even create Debian package (deb) i still can't do it :( sorry.
actually i would be very happy if i can also provide 64bit package installer but my hardware and my knowledge for now is limited to 32bit system.
ReplyDeleteAs far as VMware / Virtualbox is concerned, I don't know anything about those things.
INSTALLING . GIMPHOTO . ON . 64 BIT . UBUNTU
ReplyDeleteOkay, I'm running GimPhoto on my 64bit Ubuntu 9.04 as of today. In order to get it to run, you have to use the force command, like this:
sudo dpkg --force-architecture -i /media/Downloads/GimPhoto/gimphoto_1.4.3_i386.deb
Siegfried,
ReplyDeleteThanks for your info about installing GimPhoto for Linux under 64bit system, i will include it on the GimPhoto for Linux install instructions.
for single unified interface for GimPhoto under Liinux, you can try using XNest, maybe not perfect but as for temporary solution, it's ok :)
for using XNest with GIMP or GimPhoto, follow this link:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=240543
http://xubuntu.wordpress.com/2006/09/05/howto-run-gimp-in-one-window/
http://www.anoobsguide.com/2009/02/how-to-make-gimp-one-window-in-ubuntu.html
I cannot get past the font loading screen. It crashes out every time using the latest version.
ReplyDeleteAnonymous,
ReplyDeletecan you give me more detailed info about what OS do you use? XP, Vista or Linux? what error message? i assume you using Windows and install GimPhoto and GimPad then for first check, try to run GimPhoto (don't run GimPad) this is for define where is the problem at GimPad or GimPhoto.
Hello,
ReplyDeleteEvery filter or effect I attempt to apply to an image straight away gives me an error message saying that the particular plug in crashed. I have re started a couple of times now, and it keeps doing it. Why?
Anonymous,
ReplyDeleteplease be more specific about what OS do you use? do you use GimPhoto with GimPad? what error message do you get? what particular plugin that is crashed?
maybe you can try to run GimPhoto (don't run GimPad) and try to use filter or effect.
Hi again.
ReplyDeleteWell, for all of those looking for the "perfect" Gimp Windowed integration solution, this blog from one of the main Gimp Developers may prove to be interesting. I always figured that it was just a matter of time, just a few more months now.
https://www.blogger.com/comment.g?blogID=28919981&postID=2372750348813464628&page=1
Do take a look at it. It's very interesting and if you click on - SHOW ORIGINAL POST - at the top, then you'll get to see a bunch of screenshots too.
Greetings from Germany
Ooooops, sorry about that ...
ReplyDeleteIt appears that the images are no longer working in the blog. That's a real shame too because some of those graphical ideas were truly awesome !!! :(
YES - The images are working!
ReplyDeleteClick on the big orange line at the top that says:
"GIMP redux, single‐window mode"
Siegfried,
ReplyDeleteafaik the GIMP single window implementation was not MDI style like Photoshop but it more toward TAB style like browser such as Firefox or Chrome. I think it not as flexible as MDI windowing style.
Am unable to download from Camera scouce, nor able to print. do I need to update my recent download?
ReplyDeleteDerek stanley. stanley.d3@sky.com
Hi, thanks for such a good piece of software (I like the Gimp but sometimes it gets on my nerves...) I have a little problem with GimPad though.
ReplyDeleteI installed (in this order, after uninstalling Gimp) GimPhoto 1.4.3 and GimPad 1.1 on WIN XP SP2
Unprivileged users cannot run GimPad, program ends unexpectedly.
However, GimPhoto runs fine for the same user and Admin can run both.
Anyone else has found a solution to this?
Derek Stanley,
ReplyDeleteactually if your camera support TWAIN32 or your camera storage can be auto detected as removable drive, then it will be recognized by GimPhoto.
for printing problem, maybe you can be more specific about your OS and what error message do you got?
castawaybcn,
ReplyDeleteThank's for your kind words :) for "sometimes it gets on my nerves..." i know what you mean, because i also experience it, even that is the main reason why i develop GimPhoto :)
yes GimPad need admin privilege because GimPad need specific Win32 API that can take over control for be able to manage other apps windows (GimPhoto windows)
but you can use Steel Run As (free), get it from:
http://www.steelsonic.com/steelrunas.htm
with it we can run specific software as admin user but also hide admin password from users.
This has probably already been reported but I really can't stress enough how I would like my tools and layers dialogs to always be on top while working on an image. It is inconvenient to have to constantly alt-tab or click the tab in the taskbar in order to access them.
ReplyDeletepxlspy01,
ReplyDeletei assume you using Windows and only use GimPhoto but not using GimPad.
ReplyDeletei also have gimp 2.6.7 and gimp 2.7 installed and everything works fine....some how i dont think that gimphoto(2.4) is looking in other gimp folders because it created its own .gimp-2.4 folder in my home folder..
any ideas whats happening here....im running ubuntu 9.04
David,
ReplyDeletetry to run GimPhoto from gimphoto.sh rather from /bin/gimphoto, maybe it happened because ubuntu 9.04 using newer shared libraries that used by 2.6 but not compatible with 2.4.
zenith, thanks...works perfect now :)... also great work with GimPhoto..i love it. now i have specialized configuration for gimp, for painting and photomanipulation..thanks again.
ReplyDeleteHi!
ReplyDeleteI'm running Kubuntu Karmic and when trying to launch I get...
/usr/local/gimphoto/bin/gimphoto: error while loading shared libraries: libart_lgpl_2.so.2: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
Have I done something wrong?
Andy,
ReplyDeletetry to run /usr/local/gimphoto/gimphoto.sh
Hi Zenith,
ReplyDeleteSame response I'm afraid.
Andy,
ReplyDeletesorry but i don't have Karmic system to test it by myself. Maybe you can try to get GimPhoto deb package from GetDeb.net because it is different from this site deb package.
gimpad wont close ever when you click close and the toolbar does not show up ever again after you close it
ReplyDeleteAnonymous,
ReplyDeleteplease read installation instructions more carefully again, specially at section about deleting old gimp 2.4 preferences at /documents and settings/users folder even if you already uninstall gimp. (gimphoto will use that old preferences and that preferences usually not compatible with gimpad)
I was using GimPhoto on 32 bit XP and everything was working, but now I got a new computer with 64 bit Windows 7 and I'm having problems.
ReplyDeleteI mainly use this program for the "save for web" feature. Now when I go to open an image, the program will crash (not responding) after I open a folder with lots of images in it (about 500 images). If I leave the computer for about 5 minutes it will finally load, but then after doing anything like trying to save for web it will crash for another 5 minutes.
I have 4 gig RAM, Windows 7 64 bit.
Update on the last post... I think it is all OK now, I did not restart my computer after installing GimPhoto and I think that caused the problem.
ReplyDeleteI have a question - which version of Python Gimphoto use? And under which distro it was compiled?
ReplyDeleteP.S. Sorry for my bad English.
Fliker09,
ReplyDeletesorry but i'm not remember if i compile it with python support, if it enabled then should the same version with GIMP 2.4.3.
GimPhoto for Linux compiled using Linux Mint Daryna based on Ubuntu Feisty Fawn (before Hardy Heron)
I encountered the libgimpui-2.0-0.dll problem, the suggestion was to reinstall the GimPhoto, I did it but still the problem remains and I can't do anything, can't work att all.
ReplyDeleteDo you have a solution to this problem, as seen in Google it's a common problem.
Thank you in advance.
Ben
benblasto@gmail.com
Ben,
ReplyDeletemaybe you can be more specific what OS do you use?
gimpphotot just deleted ALL my environment variables when installing! This is totally unacceptable!
ReplyDeleteTim,
ReplyDeletecan you be more specific about your OS version?
Hey guys, i've just installed .deb file on my Mint 9.0
ReplyDeleteI run it, and i select a filter.. like "flames"
And it comes a error message:
Could not execute plug-in "flame"
(/usr/local/gimphoto/lib/gimp/2.0/plug-ins/flame)
because GIMP is using an older version of the plug-in protocol.
I have also installed gimp 2.6.. what have i to do?
Anonymous,
ReplyDeletetry to run GimPhoto from /usr/local/gimphoto/gimphoto.sh (DON'T run it from /usr/local/gimphoto/bin/gimphoto)
ReplyDeleteAnonymous,
ReplyDeletethis is Gimphoto site, not GIMP site :)
GIMP site is at http://www.gimp.org
for setting FSpot as default pic viewer, follow:
http://enli.co.cc/tutorials/setting-default-application-in-ubuntu/
Does not fully work with newest ubuntu, some .so's are missing. same with 64bits deb.
ReplyDeleteget fixed ones at openartisthq.org/debian/maverick & maverick64
Thanks Anonymous,
ReplyDeletei will replace Gimphoto for Linux package with OpenArtist Maverick Gimphoto packages.
I wanted to try gimphoto on my ubuntu 10.10 but when I install it it showed an error...:( here's the error:

ReplyDeletei'm sorry but for error on gimphoto packages from OpenArtist, please contact OpenArtist development team members.
Thanks!

Dave,
ReplyDeletei'm really sorry about the virus and thanks for your information about it.
pspi.exe is GIMP plugin for using Photoshop .8bf plugins and i got the binary from this site:
http://tml.pp.fi/gimp/pspi.html
but i never got virus warning from any anti virus software that i use, including Avast.
Hi,
ReplyDeleteI am running Fedora 15b with GNOME 3.
Thanks!

Anonymous,
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry for not be able to provide RPM package because i only Ubuntu based distro and don't have Fedora system.
but you can use ALIEN to convert Gimphoto DEB package to RPM, just follow this tutorial:

cuz I can,
ReplyDeleteThanks for your information about Gimphoto package error for Ubuntu 11.04.
I still don't have Ubuntu 11.04 system so i can't testing it and for now i'm still very busy with my life and work :(
really sorry, i hope i can fix it soon.
Why is that when I downloaded GimPad I was sent a virus? My computer stopped it thankfully but I do believe this is an issue that needs to be fixed
ReplyDeleteAnonymous,
ReplyDeleteWhat AV that you use?
because i use AVAST, AVIRA and Rising AV with Gimpad installer without a problem.
hmmm .. still multiple windows on this Kubuntu 10.04 LTS ( 64 )
ReplyDeletedeleted, purged uninstalled, reinstalled .. ran from correct dir.. still multi-windowed :(
Oh well. thanks anyway
Anonymous,
ReplyDeletei'm sorry but i already put BIG Warning on Linux Download page about that Gimphoto still CAN'T support MDI because:
GIMP based on GTK and there is NO MDI support for GTK system.
There was an error parsing the menu definition from toolbox-menu.xml: Failed to open file '/usr/local/gimphoto/share/gimp/2.0/menus/toolbox-menu.xml': No such file or directory

Fiesh,
ReplyDeletemaybe your download is not complete, please try to download again and reinstall Gimphoto.
maybe you can give more detailed info about what your OS? Win XP, Vista or Win 7?
I am running gimphoto on Ubuntu 11.10 currently and when ever I try to copy or cut an object it closes and exits on me, even when I use the menu cut and copy. Any suggestions?
ReplyDeleteAnonymous,
ReplyDeletei'm sorry but Gimphoto still not updated to latest Ubuntu version, maybe you can try compile it from its source :)

ReplyDeleteI open gimpshop and when it gets to fonts,it says
ReplyDelete(Not Responding) And i click it and a message says
Close the program or wait for it to respond.
I've tried opening it millions of times and this
allways happens. Help.
monica,
ReplyDeletei'm sorry but this site is GIMPHOTO site and NOT gimpshop site :)
if you interested to use GIMPHOTO for Windows then try to download it from http://www.gimphoto.com/2008/02/gimphoto-for-windows.html
and follow the installation instructions :)
This app donesn't run,all is ok then it gets to fonts,it says this can take a while and then it crashes.
ReplyDeleteHelp!
She Wolf,
ReplyDeleteif you have problems with Gimphoto installer then maybe you can try Gimphoto portable version, you can download it from here: (and follow installation instructions)
http://www.gimphoto.com/2008/02/gimphoto-portable.html
I am Using gimp's latest version on a Windows 8 PC, when i try to scale an image by entering values for height and width the image doesn't scale, I have scale the image manually. I tried re-installing too but it didn't work. I am facing the same issue in gimp shop too.
ReplyDeleteHi Pradeep,
ReplyDeletei'm sorry but this is NOT a GIMP nor GIMPSHOP website, this is GIMPHOTO website :)
for GIMP official website then you can go to:
http://www.gimp.org/
I basically can not get this program to work correctly at all. I can not move the main window where my image is open, so i have to move the tool boxes around. I can not select any menu choice on the image window either, so i cant do any editing. Sometimes the tool options box is stuck towards the middle of the screen and i have to open/close the program a few times to be able to move it. If i open anything from any of the menus, example.. tools or xtns, i cant not close it. the "X" or the close options do not respond.... I am running the gimpad like it says i am on windows 7. what am i doing wrong.
ReplyDeleteAnonymous,
ReplyDeleteIf you ever install GIMP 2.4 or Gimpshop (even if you already uninstall it), for Windows 7 users
- please check it under C:\Users\(Your_User_Name)\
- DELETE or RENAME folder .gimp-2.4 or .gimp-2.2
(mostly error happened because of this)
if the errors is persist then try using Gimphoto Portable, download it from:
http://www.gimphoto.com/2008/02/gimphoto-portable.html
BUG:
ReplyDeleteWhen you install GimpPhoto and GimpPad it deletes everything from your System Path variable and replaces it with the path to GimpPhoto and GimpPad.
Anonymous,
ReplyDeleteWhat your OS ? Gimphoto and Gimpad tested on Windows XP and Windows 7 without a problem.
But if you doubt then try Gimphoto Portable version first, download it from:
http://www.gimphoto.com/2008/02/gimphoto-portable.html
I have found GimPhoto for me.
ReplyDeleteBut have the problem that it does not run clean. It jerky in between and then hangs up.
Then I can finish the progam only via the task manager. It will not happen.
Mc Lawrie,
ReplyDeleteWhat OS that you use?
Maybe you can try to using Gimphoto Portable, download it from here:
http://www.gimphoto.com/2008/02/gimphoto-portable.html
Pressure sensitive hyperpen's return is really slow (an example, I draw a line, but it shows up a second later). This bug happens with GimPhoto 1.4.3 + GimPad 1.1 Btw everything works ultra fast with Gimp 2.8 , but it has less features, so I'm hoping that this gets fixed :/
ReplyDeleteEgmonts,
ReplyDeletemaybe you can try it using Wacom Tablet?
or waiting for Gimphoto next version that based on GIMP 2.8 :)
Gimphoto replaced my whole PATH environment variable with just its folder locations - not appended to it. I'm running Windows 8.1.
ReplyDeleteaesqe,
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry for your troubles with Gimphoto :(
Gimphoto only tested with Windows XP, Vista and 7 so it's not ready for Windows 8 or 8.1.
So if you use Windows 8 or 8.1, it's more safe to try Gimphoto Portable :)
http://www.gimphoto.com/2008/02/gimphoto-portable.html
I installed the 64bit (that's what I have, 64x Linux Mint (Rebecca)) version
ReplyDeleteWhen I go to /usr/local/gimphoto and do sh gimphoto.sh I get this errro:
/usr/local/gimphoto/bin/gimphoto: error while loading shared libraries: libart_lgpl_2.so.2: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
I see on the internet that I am not the only one with this problem. Is there a way to fix this?
Wijnand,
ReplyDeleteGimphoto for Linux only tested using 32 bit version of Ubuntu from 10.04 to 14.04 or Linux Mint 17.
for error "cannot open shared object", maybe you can try to install the file using package from:
https://packages.debian.org/wheezy/libart-2.0-2
I tried it, but it didn't work!
ReplyDeleteWijnand,
ReplyDeleteIt looks like your problems because library "ia32-libs" that required by 64 bit installer is not available anymore since Ubuntu 13.10...
to solve the issues, just follow this link: (i will add this info in Linux Download Page)
http://stackoverflow.com/questions/23182765/how-to-install-ia32-libs-in-ubuntu-14-04-lts-trusty-tahr
Zenith, I installed ia32-libs, but it doesn't work. It still gives the same error (libart_lgpl_2.so.2)
ReplyDeleteWijnand,
ReplyDeletedo you install 64bit version? if you using Ubuntu 14.04 then try install using 32bit version because since Ubuntu 13.10 is multi-architecture... no need anymore to install additional 32 bit library.
I have installed the 64bit, but also tried the 32bit. Both don't work, by the way: I use Linux Mint.
ReplyDeleteWhere is the location of file "libart_lgpl_2.so.2" ? Is already included on PATH ?
ReplyDelete"These might be installed in /usr/lib32 on your machine. You'll need to add these directories to your LD_LIBRARY_PATH environment variable"
bash$ export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/lib32:$LD_LIBRARY_PATH
from:
https://forums.adobe.com/thread/395537
I get this error now: error while loading shared libraries: libart_lgpl_2.so.2: wrong ELF class: ELFCLASS64
ReplyDeleteit has to do with x64 VS x32, but is this saying I have a x64 libart_lgpl_2.so.2 that is x64 or the program or...?
it worked Zenith.. this reaction:
ReplyDeleteWijnand,
That's error message mean that Gimphoto is 32 bit app that try to use libart_lgpl_2.so.2 64 bit version.
If you already success installed ia-32libs then libart_lgpl_2.so.2 32 bit is located at folder /usr/lib32.
STEP TO FIX:
1. Check file libart_lgpl_2.so.2 is exist at usr/lib32
2. ADD LIBRARY PATH TO /usr/lib32 using this command:
bash$ export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/lib32:$LD_LIBRARY_PATH
Installing 32bit app. Wrong ELF Class: ELFCLASS64

If Gimphoto 24.1 window is NOT maximized, but I would like to maximize the window of a picture within Gimphoto, this maximized picture window doesn't fit in the available size of the Gimphoto/Gimpad window.
ReplyDeleteIf Gimphoto 24.1 gets minimized, also the tool windows should disappear (without a following klick somewhere).
ReplyDeleteI had the same problem as Wijnand, hmmm I'm somewhat confused why gimphoto still want to use the 32 bit version of the library when I've downloaded the 64 bit deb package ?
ReplyDeleteAnonymous,
ReplyDeletei only compile Gimphoto 32 bit version and made 32 bit installer (because i don't have 64 bit system)
the 64 bit version is made by other Gimphoto users, i don't know if he re-compile it for 64 bit or only re-wrap my 32 bit version to 64 bit installer, i predict it was the later so Gimphoto 64 bit installer still use 32 bit version of library :)
Gimphoto 24.1 Very nice program , however it will not close , I have to end it in task manager . I have only tried it on an old XP pro system.
ReplyDeleteHi. I am trying to install Gimphoto, but when I run it it says 'where is X11'. I have deleted both XQuartz and Gimphoto reset computer, re-downloaded both - and still the same error. When I click 'Browse' to search for X11 I get 'No Document can be created'
ReplyDeletePlease help
Colin

For some reason Linux Mint 20.2 Cinnamon says that this is NOT a .deb package and cannot install it. Please provide terminal codes instead for a cleaner install. Thanks!
